Hi, i've been a little frustrated with using my antiviral medication to treat cold sores. I'm currently taking 50mg of aciclovir which works well for me. But when I try to take my antiviral, it stops working. I'm wondering how to get to the point where I can stop taking it and I have no side effects at all. Thanks in advance for any information.
I've been on the 50mg tablet for 4 months and my cold sore has not been as bad as usual. I just noticed my lips were less sore as they are a little soft and I'm taking 50mg every day. But after taking my antiviral for 4 months, I'm having a bad cough. I'm wondering how much of it is due to my cold sores. I'm concerned that this is only because I have a cold sore but if it is, it is probably the other side of my body. I'm also concerned that the treatment will not work in the same way as it did when I was on the 50mg and the 400mg tablets. I'm not sure if it's due to the cold sores or something else but I'm sure this is something I need to discuss with my doctor.

The only side effect I'm experiencing is that my lip does not quite "stick" to my cheeks and it may feel like there's a crack or soreness in my cheeks. I'm worried that this could be an allergic reaction to the tablets. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was just wondering if anyone has any other experience?

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has a weakened immune system or is on certain medications. Aciclovir may react to this medicine and cause side effects. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist who that person is taking it from.
Valtrex® is a medicine that is used to treat the symptoms of herpes and shingles, also known as genital herpes. It is available in the generic form of acyclovir 5%, acyclovir 50%, or valaciclovir 1% and is prescribed to treat cold sores, genital herpes, and other herpes infections. Valtrex® may also be prescribed for other infections as determined by your doctor.
Valtrex® is used to treat shingles caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is the most common type of genital herpes. It also is used to treat cold sores and the other types of herpes infections caused by the herpes simplex virus and is also used to treat genital herpes in adults. The most common side effects of Valtrex® are headache, back pain, muscle aches, and a stuffy or runny nose.
Valtrex® is also used to treat herpes simplex virus infections that have been proven to be a very serious condition.
